A caterer who feared he had lost his livelihood when his burger van was stolen has got the vehicle back.

Thieves made off with the unique vehicle from outside Tony Welti's home in Horsham on May 31.

Mr Welti, concerned his business would fail, contacted us to help find it.

And on Monday he received a phone call telling him the distinctive 20-year-old white and orange van had been spotted in a field near Mannings Heath, Horsham.

Mr Welti rushed to the farm to recover the van.

He said: "I got a call from a woman saying it had been left in a field on a farm. She said someone claimed they had won it in a game of poker."

Mr Welti said most of the food had been stolen but the van was mainly intact.

Burgers, sausages, bacon, soft drinks, milk and cheese were all missing. The generator and a personal stereo were also stolen.

He said: "I can't believe I've got my van back. I would like to say a big thank you to all the readers of The Argus from all over Sussex who offered to help.

"I had calls from burger van owners in Brighton who saw the article and said they would keep an eye out for it.

"People have been very kind, including all the shop and pub owners who put posters in their windows to aid the search. I'm really grateful."

Mr Welti believes the van is the only one of its kind in the South.
