A retired court clerk may have died after a shard of glass lodged in his throat, an inquest heard.

The body of Richard Green, 84, of Southfields Road, Eastbourne, was discovered on January 28, East Sussex coroner Alan Craze heard yesterday.

A post-mortem examination revealed a triangular piece of glass in one of Mr Green's tubes leading to his left lung.

The hearing in Eastbourne heard Mr Green, a diabetic, had tried to commit suicide in 1997.

Mr Craze delivered an open verdict.
