John Robinson is in no rush to resolve his future as Albion and Cardiff head the queue for his services.

The Seagulls remain favourites to re-sign the Charlton winger but a deal is unlikely to be concluded until next month.

Boss Steve Coppell confirmed to us last Friday that he is interested in Robinson, together with former loan signing Anthony Rougier, and would take them if he could afford them.

Cardiff have also been strongly linked with the ex-Welsh international, but Robinson revealed: "I haven't had talks with anyone.

"There's no panic for me. I know clubs are interested, but I am in a lucky position.

"Charlton have given me a free, even though my contract with them has another year to run.

"It will happen when it happens, although I would want to get something sorted out by a week or ten days into pre-season.

"It's nice to hear that a manager wants you and I never rule anyone out as long as the club has a future and direction.

"There is direction at Brighton now that Steve has signed for another year.

"It's a big year for them with the ground and there is no reason why they cannot get promotion."

Robinson, could expect to earn around £5,000 a week with Cardiff, promoted to Division One via the play-offs.

Money is not, however, a major consideration for him at this late stage of his career and he told us last month he would not mind dropping into the Second Division.

The 31-year-old's close links with the Seagulls and Sussex are major factors in Albion's favour.

Their result is still the first one he looks for following his five-year stint with the club until 1992.

The father-of-three stayed in the area after signing for Charlton and has set up home at Blackboys near Hailsham.

Coppell needs a wide player to replace Leicester-bound Paul Brooker, but his resources are limited.

Simon Rodger, Dean Blackwell and Dave Beasant would have to be paid for out of the pot set aside for new signings if they are re-engaged.
