A police operation has been launched to catch a teenager linked with at least 12 burglaries and attempted burglaries.

Elderly people have been targeted in the Sidley area of Bexhill over the past two months and police believe the same person is responsible after witnesses offered similar descriptions.

Detective Inspector Trevor Bowles, who is leading the investigation, said: "A number of people have been affected by this man. The people of Sidley want him caught and we are looking to them for their help."

The most recent incident took place on Sunday when there were a number of attempted burglaries in the area.

One house was broken into and householders contacted police with a description.

Police have issued details of a man they wish to speak to. He is white, between 5ft 10in and 6ft with distinctive, sharp features. He wears dark clothing and is believed to know the area well.

Detective Inspector Bowles said: "We have a number of lines of enquiry. We are examining CCTV evidence in the area and are continuing to work with witnesses.

"Offences of domestic burglary are viewed very seriously by the court, and recent sentences reflect that."
