Animal lovers are planning to bare all in protest at the treatment of Spanish bulls ahead of a traditional festival.

The men, from Brighton and Worthing, aim to streak through the streets of Pamplona before next month's annual Running Of The Bulls fiesta.

Christopher Black, Michael Greatorex and Adrian Cooper will be among 200 activists expected to make the journey to Spain for the human race on July 5.

They will strip off and run the same route the bulls are due to take on July 7 as they are herded to a bullfighting arena.

Adrian, 29, said: "It's an issue which needs highlighting because it's a very cruel way for any animal to spend its last hours.

"The bulls are usually terrified out of their wits, I don't think there is any need for such suffering. "

The run will be a first for Adrian, a web site designer in Brighton. Although he has stripped off in public on nudist beaches in the past, he admitted to being slightly nervous about running down a street naked.

Christopher, from Worthing, has been a vegetarian since he was 13 and a vegan for the last three years.

The 18-year-old Northbook College student said: "Animal welfare is very important. We are in the 21st Century and most cruel sports have already been banned.

"It's going to be a bit embarrassing to strip off but it'll be worth it if it makes people aware of what's going on."

The volunteers will travel to Spain by coach with other activists from the UK.

They will join French, German, and Spanish campaigners for the event, which has been organised by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

Last year about 400 onlookers gathered to watch the streakers, some of whom wore just a pair of fake bull horns on their head.

Modest protesters can choose to run in white underwear.

Michael, 39, and also from Worthing, said: "I think it's important issues relating to the running of the bulls and bullfighting are brought to people's attention.

Michael, who has been a vegetarian for 14 years, said: "My main worry is the journey because we are going by coach. It's going to take about 30 hours to get there. That's more of a concern to me than taking my kit off."

Adrian added: "I love Spain and the Spanish way of life, I think it's fantastic. But the bullfighting is disgusting. I'm happy to embarrass myself ever so slightly if it will help highlight the cruelty to the bulls."
