Littlehampton was celebrating a double today after winning its first ever Blue Flag Award.
The resort, which had already received the Seaside Award for 2003, has now passed the toughest water cleanliness tests set down by European law.
Resorts also have to prove they have top draw facilities including lifeguards, first aid and good access for disabled visitors.
The Blue Flag Award is the most famous beach award in the world and is the definitive international measure of resorts.
Chairman of Arun District Council Dr James Walsh will raise the European Blue Flag and the Seaside Award Flag at a ceremony on Littlehampton beach tomorrow.
Many of the people who helped the resort achieve the award, including foreshore staff, lifeguards, litter pickers and engineers, will also be there.
