I have, up to now, supported the work of St Patrick's Church in Cambridge Road, Hove.

I have given money to it on the basis it provides practical help to homeless people.

The church's night shelter has sought donations on the basis that it seeks to provide practical help by rescuing people from the cycle of drugs and alcohol abuse in which they find themselves.

However, I have noticed over the past few months that the same set of people seem to simply hang round the church week after week seemingly only getting worse and worse.

Norfolk Square has become a no-go area for women and the elderly as a result. The clients of the night shelter are destroying the neighbourhood in Cambridge Road.

Have we now reached the situation where St Patrick's is part of the problem rather than a solution?

If St Patrick's was a pub, it would have lost its licence a long time ago.
