Harry Bishop, a stalwart of Sussex football, has died aged 79.
Mr Bishop, who had lived in Australia since the Seventies, was a leading light at Wick Football Club.
John Suter, a one-time teammate and now manager of Horsham YMCA, said: "He was the driving force behind Wick's ground and clubhouse.
"He played for Wick in the Fifties, later became secretary and ran the bar with his wife, Joyce.
"He and Joyce were Mr and Mrs Wick. The world has lost a character."
