The oldest conservation organisation in the South Downs is to appoint its first director.
The Society of Sussex Downsmen hope the new director will help forge closer links with councils, environment bodies and conservationists.
Vice-chairman Jon Martin said the appointment was part of the society's aim of becoming the leading voluntary group in the new South Downs national park.
He said it would help the society become the "voice of considered opinion" on conservation matters in Sussex and Hampshire.
The society was formed in 1923 and has more than 2,700 members.
