Dan Kieran of The Idler magazine says he looks forward to being pelted with eggs by angry Sussex-lovers (The Argus, April 24).

He would not look forward to the Horsham version - he would be in the stocks (yes, will still have them) and the eggs would be hard-boiled.

Horsham was once famous for a special form of entertainment known as the Horsham Hang Fairs. Perhaps we could revise them.

The hangings would take place on Bank Holidays and anyone who placed branches of greenery over their door could sell drink.

People would sell poems and ballads about those who were hanged and crowds would come in from the surrounding villages.

Does that sound like a no-fun zone? Of course, if it happened now some idiot would come down from London and start interfering.

Political correctness is ruining the diversity of local culture.
