Given the obvious unsustainability of current professional football finances and the probable disappearance of several once-great clubs into insolvency, it would seem the building of a new stadium anywhere for the Albion - which, despite its loyal, local supporters, is not exactly a household name throughout the nation and certainly without the financial clout to become one - is a dubious, speculative venture.

Such "prestige" projects inevitably end up costing at least four times its original estimates and having to be bailed out with public money, most of it from people who never wanted the project in the first place.

I wonder, therefore, public inquiry results notwithstanding, whether we are witnessing yet another white elephant in the making with which to burden the city's council tax-payers a few years down the line.
