East Grinstead and Haywards Heath both won a hat-trick of titles at the East and West Sussex Minis Festivals tournaments.

About 1,400 youngsters and more than 100 teams battled to reach the All-Sussex finals at Midhurst on April 13.

Haywards Heath won titles at under-12s, under-11s and under-sevens in the competition for teams in the west of the county staged at Hove.

It was a sixth area appearance for the under-12s since the side first formed as under-sevens.

The team have now reached five All-Sussex finals and completed their latest success with a 5-0 final victory against Midhurst with a try by Joe Hallam.

Heath overcame Worthing 10-0 in the last four with Hallam scoring twice.

In group matches, they defeated Hove 10-0, Pulborough 15-0 and drew 0-0 with Midhurst.

Heath under-11s pipped Worthing 10-5 in their final to give hooker Dominic Notley, who is moving to New Zealand, a big send off.

They overcame a bigger Horsham side 10-0 in the semi-finals, while Worthing defeated the hosts.

Heath topped their group ahead of Crawley, Midhurst and Worthing as their forwards dominated in the scrums.

Their try scorers included Dan Harris (2), James Parr (2), Pat Lamb (2), Jake Henry (2), JamesTyas, Freddie Duff, Jake Baldwin and James Brown.

Heath under-sevens pipped Sussex champions Chichester 20-15 in the final thanks to a last-minute try from Stephen Craddock.

Hove enjoyed a title double. They beat Worthing 10-0 in the under-nines final and pipped Chichester 10-5 at under-tens.

Pulborough took the under-eights crown, defeating Midhurst 10-5 in the final.

Hosts East Grinstead bounced back to claim three East Sussex crowns.

They had a barren year last season but their under-eights, under-nines and under-12s were all succesful.

East Grinstead under-12s scored tries and conceded none. They overcame Lewes 25-0 in the final.

The under-nines secured their title 10-5 against Crowborough with a golden try in extra-time by Hector Worsley who was set up by Toby Gillett and Drew Williamson. Nick De Brett also scored.

They overcame Brighton 15-5 in the semi-finals following group wins against Hellingly (35-0), Hastings and Bexhill (20-0), Lewes (25-0) and Crowborough (20-5).

Their under-eights made Crowborough suffer a second time in a final with a 15-10 victory.

Brighton completed a title double.

The under-11s overcame Crowborough 30-0 in their final with tries by Craig Holland, Darion Naylor, Kieron Martin, James Kinsella, Sam Smith and George Taylor.

Brighton under-sevens defeated Lewes 35-25 in the final.

Crowborough clinched the under-tens crown with a 15-0 win against Lewes.

Uckfield took the fairplay award.

Clubs also included Heathfield and Waldron, Eastbourne, Rye, Hellingly, Burgess Hill, Uckfield and Hastings and Bexhill.

Longhill won two and lost one in a power shift at the Brighton and Hove Schools' Association finals at Waterhall, Brighton.

Cardinal Newman and Hove Park have dominated in recent years.

But Longhill were the outstanding performers.

The under-15s overcame Cardinal Newman 15-0. In a tight encounter, Longhill scored two tries shortly before half-time through Sam El-Abd and Will Smith. Newman battled back before a Matt Beline try sealed it for Longhill.

Longhill under-16s overcame Sussex Cup semi-finalists Hove Park 20-5 with tries by Alex Krasnuik, Josh Gunn and Sam Wallis in the last ten minutes. Daniel Sutton scored earlier and James Szymick went over for Hove Park.

Hove Park took revenge with a 29-5 victory in the under-13s' final with Adam Salvage (2), Grant Karhill (2) and Peter Hodge, plus conversions by Luke Thompson and Ryan Moorlan, sealing it. Sam Chesney scored Longhill's consolation try.

Newman defeated Blatchington Mill 24-10 in the under-14s final with tries by Des Wilson (2), Matthew Tanner and James Trevis. Tom Kinsella kicked two conversions.
