Imberhorne (East Grinstead) are one step away from an appearance at the home of rugby.

They qualified for the national schools under-12s finals by winning the regional event in style at Dorking.

A last-minute try by Thomas Lannaway secured a 10-5 final win against St Peter's (Surrey) after Lewis Gleave had also touched down.

They overcame Gordon (Surrey) with a golden try from David Major with the score 5-5 at full-time.

Imberhorne kept clean sheets in their group, beating Working High 15-0, Priory (Lewes) 20-0 and Business Academy Bexley (Kent) 25-0.

They join 23 other teams at Staines on May 4 when the semi-finals and final will be played during the Army v Navy match interval Manager Clive Marshall said: "Twickenham is a huge incentive and I'm confident we can get there as we've been unbeaten in 12 games, conceded just two tries and scoreed more than 40."

Priory, Ringmer Community College, Angmering, Hove Park failed to qualify from their groups at Dorking where Kent, Surrey and Sussex schools played off.

Balfour won two titles as Brighton Rugby Club hosted its second schools tag festival at Waterhall.

They beat Stanford 11-4 in the Year Three final and also collected the John Packham Cup for most tries scored overall, and St Martin's 40-20 at Year Six.

Balfour were also runners-up to Stanford at Year Five.

Stanford defeated Balfour 9-6 in the Year Five final while Saltdean secured a 20-15 success against St Martin's.

There were 250 players involved with Patcham and St Bernadette's also represented.

Councillor Mike Middleton handed out the prizes.

Hove under-14s scrum-half Jordan Peters, 14, from Hove will play at Twickenham. He helped his school, Whitgift (Surrey) reach the Daily Mail under-15s cup final with a victory over Lyma High at Wolverhampton.

Sussex under-17s beat Kent 39-15 with Owen Jones (2), Rob Smith (2), Lee Garrett and Dan Ross-Jones scoring tries. Dan Sweeney kicked four conversions and a penalty.

Hove under-13s pipped Haywards Heath 11-10 with a last-kick penalty from Sam Whiting. Both sides go through to the Sussex (East) semi-finals.
