What a few of weeks of fun Labour-run Brighton and Hove City Council has had.

Not satisfied with passing the controversial plans for the West Pier regardless of the local residents' protests, council officers march on, ignoring residents again, to pass plans for a £1.5 million nightclub, are going ahead with plans for a monstrosity of a building on the Endeavour site and further upsetting residents over proposals for a massive redevelopment around Brighton station.

And what is happening with the proposed 18-storey building on the Medina site?

On top of all this, they have been busy introducing a ludicrous and unnecessary one-way system just south of the Floral Clock, in Hove, detrimental to local traders, causing outrage over the city's new parking policy which includes the introduction of new residential parking in Hove with inadequate parking for the disabled and stopping people parking across their own driveways, increasing council tax to cover their debt and wanting to install telephone masts on a listed building - all in the name of progress.

What other schemes have they got up their sleeves we don't know about?

Still not satisfied, they crash on, regardless of public opinion and objections presented at the local inquiry, to unveil their outrageous new plans for the redevelopment of the King Alfred centre.

These plans are a total contradiction - not higher than seven storeys - to what we were led to believe by the council's planning officer at the King Alfred exhibition before Christmas.

No doubt the introduction of a tall buildings policy will cover their justification to go ahead with one of these schemes.

It seems, like the Government, the council has gone power crazy and is riding roughshod over local people's views to get its way.

Where is the democracy in ignoring residents who have genuine grounds to resist these outrageous schemes going to lead next?

No one is averse to improving the look of Brighton and Hove's seafront but it doesn't need an imitation of Manhattan on the shore.

I strongly advise anyone who is going to vote in the local elections not to vote Labour back in, unless you are willing to see our city destroyed.
