Web fans are invited to put forward their favourite sites for recognition.

Nominations are now open for the Brighton and Hove Virtual Festival Web Awards 2003 and any site built in or about the city could win.

There are six categories, including the best sites for business, community, nights out, local arts and music, the best personal site and an accessibility award.

Last year's awards attracted more than 100 entries and 500 people voted.

Mark Walker, who organises the event as part of the annual virtual festival, said: "It's a great way of raising awareness of the quality of creative work that comes out of the city.

"The previous two web awards competitions have captured the eclectic mix of sites that are out there, from highly successful business sites to the strangest personal sites.

"It's also a great way of getting everyone involved in deciding which are the best from the hundreds that have something to do with Brighton and Hove."

Anybody can nominate any site, as long as it is linked with the city, and entries must be in by Monday, April 21.

Judges from all parts of the community will select a shortlist in each category and the public can vote for their favourites during Brighton Festival.

Winners will be announced in June.
