A jury retired to consider its verdict in the case of six people charged in connection with a secret drugs laboratory.

It is alleged that £20 million of amphetamine sulphate was manufactured.

Kevin Hoare, 46, of Bugswell Mill Oast, Hurst Green, near Robertsbridge; his sons Adam, 19, and Russell, 20, of Princes Plain, Bromley; his girlfriend Tracey Thacker, 35, of Vicarage Way, Hurst Green; and Alan Smith, 52, of Frewin Close, St Leonards, all deny conspiring to produce amphetamine between July 1998 and July 2002.

Kevin Hoare and Graham Pierce, 41, of Greyswood Street, Streatham, London, deny conspiring to supply the drug.

During the trial at Lewes Crown Court, now in its sixth week, the jury has heard that police found one of Britain's biggest drug producing operations when they raided a barn at Bugswell Mill Oast in July last year.

Kevin Hoare told the court he had rented out the barn to a man he would only name as Mr A and he believed a medical compound was being produced which would help treat cancer and other diseases.
