Lewes secured their National League place for another season with a 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Blueharts in division two on Sunday.

With Peterborough losing 2-0 at Hounslow, Lewes cannot now be caught by the bottom two.

Carl Wright scored the only goal of the game five minutes into the second half and effectively relegated Blueharts in the progress. Peterborough will go into the end-of-season relegation play-offs.

Manager Paul Benoy admitted the current campaign was always going to be tough after being relegated from division one last year.

He said: "It was always our intention just to consolidate our position in the National League. We weren't expecting to be pushing for promotion, although it would have been nice to be in mid-table rather than scrapping for points.

"We have lost so many players our the last two years. The only regulars remaining from the side of two years ago are Danny Poulsen and Will Champness.

"This gives us time to rebuild and get the players we have got up to the required standard. Then we will be looking to do a bit of recruiting in the summer."

Lewes could have won by more but the Blueharts goalkeeper pulled off a string of fine saves to deny Marnix Achterbergh, Jon Hooker, Wright, Tim Garner, Poulsen and Andy Pike.

East Grinstead took four points from their double bill of action over the weekend.

On Saturday an understrength Grinstead side drew 1-1 with Formby. Both the goals came in the last ten minutes with Kevin King equalising for the hosts with a penalty stroke.

The following day Grinstead beat Bath Buccaneers 2-1 thanks to goals from Gregor Eiden and Duncan Howarth. A far more positive performance included excellent displays from Paul Turk and Charlie Pine.
