Crawley boss Francis Vines is confident he can mark his first season in charge with some silverware after Reds reached the League Cup Final last night.

They booked their place in a two-leg final against Halesowen after beating eastern division side King's Lynn at the Broadfield Stadium.

A 21st minute strike by Warren Bagnall settled a dire game in which Crawley had captain Peter Fear sent off for two bookable offences.

It is the second time in three years that Reds have reached the final but unlike two seasons ago, Vines wants to finish as the cup winners.

He said: "It is all very well getting to the final but we have to make sure we go on and win it now. It would be very nice to win some silverware and we are confident of doing it but not over confident."

King's Lynn, beaten 4-1 at Eastbourne Borough on Saturday, started the brightest and it was not until Crawley took the lead that they started to dominate.

It was scored by Bagnall, who had been a doubt before kick-off with an eye injury, but it was largely thanks to the good work of Ernie Cooksey who was back after a one-match ban.

Cooksey stole possession from Paul Raynor, beat two men then played an inch perfect through ball into the path of Bagnall who fired home from 12 yards.

Crawley should have gone two-up on 34 minutes when Mo Harkin's cross found Nigel Brake unmarked at the back post but his tame header was pushed over by visiting keeper Steve Wilson.

The visitors, who had beaten two premier division sides on their way to the last four, failed to threaten Reds in a dire second half.

The home side also struggled to create any clear cut chances of their own with only an 85th minute header by Nic McDonnell coming close to adding to the scoreline.

Vines said: "It wasn't pretty, that's for sure. The game was all about the result but it would have been nice to do it in a bit of style."

Fear was sent off for a second bookable offence three minutes into injury time.
