A woman who says she was conceived when her mother was raped has given evidence in the trial of her father.

She told a jury she did not know the truth until she met her father's son and saw the similarity.

Barry Watson, 57, is standing trial at Chichester Crown Court over a series of sex offences in the 1960s.

His alleged victim, who cannot be named, says she gave birth to the girl after one of the attacks.

The daughter told the court: "I was struck by the likeness to myself at the time when I met him. We discussed the possibility of us being brother and sister.

"We decided I would confront my mother and he would confront his father. I discovered Barry Watson was actually my biological father. I was quite disturbed initially.

"I received a phone call from Barry himself. He said he was not my father and that, if I spoke any more about this subject, he would get solicitors on to the case.

"I did not recall the exact words apart from every other word was a swear word."

Gillian Etherton, prosecuting, said DNA tests "provided very strong support" for the woman's claim.

Watson, from Bradford, had pleaded not guilty to six rapes, indecency with a child four times and indecent assault twice. All the offences were said to have happened in the Chichester area.

But three of the rape charges have been withdrawn along with two of the indecency with a child charges, which centred on allegations that Watson sold her for sex to two work mates.

The trial continues.
