Some national newspapers have recently tried to claim refugees bring deadly diseases into the UK and the rise in HIV, Aids and TB cases is caused by immigrants.
This is a cheap attempt to pander to racists.
A Home Office scheme has screened 5,000 refugees for TB for the past eight months and did not find a single person with TB.
Instead, the medical checks revealed evidence of gunshot wounds, whippings, beatings and rape as a result of the persecution and terror these people are fleeing from.
The Aids charity the Terrence Higgins Trust says refugees who may have HIV or Aids pose no greater threat than anyone else in the UK and instituting compulsory testing is the least effective way to combat rising rates of infection.
