Anti-war protesters paraded banners outside Worthing Town Hall as they continued their opposition to conflict in Iraq.
The demonstration, led by activist group Worthing Against War, involved passing a resolution to Worthing Borough Council leader Sheila Player for the full council to consider.
The document, which has already been agreed by Cambridge City Council, would act as a formal recognition of Worthing residents' opposition to war with Iraq.
Worthing Against War spokeswoman Joy Hurcombe said: "We were appealing to the council to join with is in our concern.
"War seems to be imminent and the resolution reflects the disquiet the majority of the people in this country feel. We had a copy of the resolution for the council to consider and Miss Player agreed to put it to the council.
"If they pass it, it means they would not support a war without the consent of the United Nations.
"In a place like Worthing where they cannot afford to renew existing facilities like the Aquarena, Teville Gate and the seafront, it puts the money spent on war into perspective."
