I understand the Sussex police traffic division has been replaced with a camera unit. The police are now relying on technology to do the policing. Capture and detection, not prevention.

Cameras might have limited effect in the small area close to them and then only for a short while but, overall, there has not been a significant drop in the number of accidents, injuries or fatalities.

Since their introduction, a reverse psychology has come into being - no camera, no speed limit.

Away from the cameras, speeds have increased and where they have been removed, the speed goes back to what it was.

Drive along Kingsway in Hove and you will be overtaken by vehicles travelling at 50 and 60 miles an hour, which is not good for anyone.
