Music and football fans danced the night away and raised almost £3,000 for the fund aimed at keeping Brighton and Hove Albion in Division One.

The concert at Hove Town Hall on Friday, organised by the Forty Note Fund, featured top bands and artists who performed free.

Many fans wore their Seagulls shirts and there were frequent chants of "We are staying up" as the music pulsed through the hall, which was given free by the city council.

Dancefloor act Phats and Small topped the bill. Fans of the up-and-coming band New Direxion gave their band an enthusiastic reception.

Laughter was provided by actor Stephen North, star of TV's London's Burning and the film Fever Pitch, along with comedy actor Mark Brailsford.

Other acts included the punk band Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, Dirty Shoes and The Reclaimers.

The 400 guests and fans were also entertained by DJs Midfield General and Andy Mac from Albion sponsor Skint Records.

Doug Clark, a trustee of the Forty Note Fund - which has been formed by fans to raise additional cash to help keep Albion up - said "The evening was a great success. It proved we can put on events that raise money and give fans a good night out."
