Eastbourne Borough continued their eastern division promotion charge with a devastating 4-1 win over big-scoring King's Lynn at Priory Lane.

They are now third, four points behind leaders Bashley with two games in hand.

Garry Wilson's team had the bonus of facing ten men for over two-thirds of the game when the visitors had the influential Paul Raynor sent off after 25 minutes.

Raynor was cautioned for dissent after committing a foul on Matt Crabb but continued to argue with Strood referee Gavin Hoare and was finally shown a red card for foul and abusive language.

The referee himself had been in the wars earlier when he needed several minutes' treatment from both physios after being struck on the head by a full-blooded clearance from Darren Baker.

A spectacular overhead effort by Scott Ramsay after Ben Austin had flicked on John Westcott's cross put Boro ahead in the 40th minute.

The prolific Ramsay made it 2-0 ten minutes into the second half following another Westcott cross to the far post.

The game seemed set for a tight finish when Carl Holmes headed the visitors back into the game in the 64th minute.

But although the Linnets played with more heart, any hopes of salvaging a point were shattered when Matt Smart came on for Justin Harris and scored a superb third goal from 25 yards.

A powerful run and shot from Austin completed the scoring just before the final whistle.

Assistant manager Nick Greenwood said: "It was a big result for the club and puts the promotion issue right back into our own hands. All the goals were top quality."
