Instead of a warm-up band, Lemon Jelly played bingo - well, they didn't but we did.

Given a card in a lucky bag on arrival, a bingo machine sat on the stage while the numbers were read by a suitably kitsch caller.

So far, so Lemon Jelly. A cheer went up as the duo hit the stage, lovely lights flashed, their trademark visuals flickered and an eager fan waved a duck on the end of a long stick. But I almost had to strain over the chit-chat of the audience to hear the music.

This shouldn't have mattered because, as 21st-Century cocktail music, Lemon Jelly aren't meant to be the main event. But stuck centre stage at Concorde 2, they had no choice and their tunes dragged.

Then, at the end, something magical happened.

Little animated squirrels danced on stage, someone found the volume dial and Nice Weather For Ducks pounded out.

The audience began to relax, smiles sparkled and bodies swayed. It came a bit late but, finally, Lemon Jelly got us to wobble.
