Excited Brighton and Hove children were given a sneak preview of their new school.
They took an exclusive look at the building they will move into in September as part of a safety demonstration.
The Year 4 pupils at St Andrew's School, Hove, donned hard hats and high-visibility jackets for the visit.
The school is going up as part of a project to build a Tesco store on the former gasworks site in nearby Church Road.
Construction work is under way just metres from existing classrooms so the company arranged for all the children to hear a talk on the dangers involved.
It featured Bob the Builder and the company's own safety mascot, Kieran, and the youngsters were invited to design their own safety posters.
The best from each year group will be put up around the construction site as a reminder of how dangerous sites can be.
Project manager Benn Hunter said: "We had a few problems with the weather but we plan to be able to hand the building over in July.
"It will be fitted out and ready for the children to move into at the start of the new school year in September."
Headteacher Kathy Moore said: "The existing buildings are cramped and not easy to get around while the new school will be more spacious."
