Eastbourne Borough scored three times in the second half to maintain their eastern division promotion bid with a 3-0 home win over Chatham Town.

The home fans were getting restless after a miserable first half which rarely looked like producing a goal.

But there was no half-time rollicking from boss Garry Wilson. "The conditions were more deceptive than people thought," said Wilson.

"I actually congratulated our team on not conceding a goal before half-time.

"We faced a strong wind and the muddy conditions slowed things up. Trying to clear your lines in the heavy conditions was not easy.

"Sometimes, you only get 45 minutes to win a game and I thought that overall, it was a good, workmanlike performance."

Once again, Borough were indebted to the opportunism of Scott Ramsay.

The former Albion striker broke the deadlock in the 55th minute following a perfect through ball from Peter Baker.

Baker netted the second in the the 76th minute with an acrobatic volley after a fine right flank run by substitute Mark Goodwin had ended with Goodwin's effort rebounding off goalkeeper Kevin Fewell.

Ramsay completed the scoring six minutes from time with a low, edge-of-the-area shot which ensured a Borough double and a repeat of the 3-0 scoreline at Chatham back in October.

St Leonards' home match with Salisbury City was postponed because of a frozen pitch.
