There is nothing like a win or two to make you forget about a few bumps, bruises and tired muscles.

Bognor and East Grinstead proved that when they followed key league wins on Saturday by progressing in the Sussex Trophy 24 hours later.

Grinstead's successful weekend was long overdue. They scored an excellent 7-6 home success over promotion-chasing Charlton Park in London Three South East before knocking Hove out of the Sussex Trophy 23-17.

Gs are making a habit of low scoring leagues games and club spokesman Steve Perry admitted: "We are turning into the doyens of the dour."

Matt Lester marked his return to the wing with the crucial try, converted by Stuart Sorrell, to send Gs above Eastbourne in the battle for survival.

The Trophy tie was more lively with Hove going into an early 7-0 lead as Martin Lovell converted Austin Jones's try.

Sorrell's penalty and a Rob Magee try edged Gs ahead by the break but Ben Davies capped a superb display in the Hove back row by touching down for Lovell to convert.

Another Sorrell penalty brought Gs back to 14-11 and he then converted a Taese Bower try.

Lovell found the target to bring Hove back to 18-17 but a late Alex Ingham try settled the contest.

Hove skipper Richard Jackson said: "I thought Grinstead lived off our scraps."

Play was suspended for 15 minutes when Hove's 18-year-old hooker Nick Allen suffered a back injury. He will be in a brace for up to eight weeks but has been told he will make a complete recovery.
