Perhaps we should seek an integrated solution for our sewage and our refuse.

Why not bring both waste streams together and co-compost our sewage sludge with much of our household waste to manufacture a useful soil conditioner and fertiliser for the farms surrounding Brighton and Hove?

The obvious place for this facility is the old gasworks in East Brighton.

The main sewers pass nearby and it is within the city's boundaries.

The processing would be after removing or collecting separately all those things which are better recycled.

And the leftover plastic taken from the granulated compost?

Put it through a small incinerator to generate power to run the plant or provide heat and power to local homes.
