So what gives Betty Walshe (Letters, November 25) the right to think only Hove people used the car park behind Iceland in Blatchington Road?

Up to two years ago, I used my car not only for shopping but also to dispose of my recycling, another facility that has gone.

Councillor Walshe has only to ask the shopkeepers in George Street and Blatchington Road to find out how their takings have been reduced.

Although I no longer have a car, I still shop in the area twice a week. Shopping after 4pm has always been available but does not give you the time you need to shop and have a midday meal.

Councillor Simon Battle states a new primary school will benefit the area.

We already had a primary school and if Brighton and Hove City Council wanted it enlarged, it had only to take a small section of the playing field. After all, the youngsters don't play cricket or football.

Regarding Tesco's car park, I shall look forward to seeing the 230 spaces. Why only a measly 30 for the corporation instead of the 140 it pinched? There will certainly be strings attached.

Go by public transport if it turns up and then struggle on to the bus with bags of shopping? That's what cars are for.

If councillors are going to reply, let their replies be balanced and honest and not through rose-coloured glasses.

Lastly, to gloat on £3 million taken from motorists is nothing to be proud of and will only drive more motorists away. Once bitten, twice shy.
