Householders face a £26,000 bill this year to remove dumped vehicles from the streets of Worthing.
The shock expense was revealed in a report on a growing problem which is being debated by councillors on Monday.
Last year the borough council spent £17,275 getting rid of 1,209 abandoned vehicles, and the cost is likely to rise to £26,000 this year.
It costs the council £35 to collect, store and dispose of each vehicle.
It is investigating the possibility of joining a county-wide service which would result in the county council shouldering most of the cost.
