For a band who marketed themselves on being the epitome of cool, Fun Lovin' Criminals have made a good fist of looking like a bunch of doofuses of late.

The smartly-dressed, tight-knit trio are known for their laid-back style, bass-lead tunes and rock leanings but they are ultimately more famous for being a bunch of chilled guys who can effortlessly entertain their fans.

Unfortunately, they seem to have become too cool for school if their gig at the Dome Concert Hall was anything to go by.

Having recently been dropped by their record company and getting by with a greatest hits compilation, the FLC were going through the motions with little of their "forget-about-it" ethos on show.

Instead, the audience was treated to a back catalogue, kicking off with The View Belongs To Everyone, followed by stalwarts such as The Fun Lovin' Criminal, Scooby Snacks, King Of New York and Korean Bodega before tackling some new material that sounds very much like the old stuff.

Lead singer Huey's effortlessly hip style and the band's unfeasibly groovesome sound were lacking and it is hard to decipher why.

It may have been the restrictive click track that kept the band to a regimented and rigid performance when they should have taken the chance to let loose.

It's possible the material is past it's sell-by-date and the gangster-inspired lyrics have lost their freshness despite still being rollicking good tunes.

However, what's more likely is the fact the band are finding it hard to reclaim their glory days and capitalise on the promise shown in their albums 100% Columbian, Come Find Yourself and Loco.

There were odd moments of inspiration when Huey decided to let rip with his guitar and there is no denying the musical prowess of the multi-talented Fast and the awesome drummer Mackey but the all-important vital spark was missing.

What we got instead was drowned-out vocals and guitar which was less bluesy and more thrash.

Loud, tired and lazy, this was a lacklustre performance which neither the audience nor the band deserved.

Unfortunately, it seems the Fun Lovin' Criminals have become a band past their prime before their time.
