Drummer and singer Koko Kanyinda is one of the leading exponents of soukous, an upbeat African dance and musical style.
In a career spanning 40 years, he has played with Papa Noel, Sam Mangwana and Mose Fan Fan, before moving to England and forming his own band in 1994.
The music was superb, with Koko backed by a highly talented six-piece band.
Almost as important as the music itself, the group were clearly enjoying themselves and knew how to communicate that feeling to the sadly depleted audience.
The sense of energy was infectious and when Koto joked there was no extra charge for dancing, everyone was on their feet in seconds. A couple of audience members even made it on to the stage.
