Teddy fanatic Jo Rothery persuaded Anne Robinson to design a dominatrix bear after being humiliated by the fierce presenter on The Weakest Link.

Jo, editor of Partridge-Green-based magazine Teddy Bear Times, made it to the final three on the quiz show's collector edition, which was in aid of charity and is due to be shown on BBC One at Christmas.

Jo, who lives in Partridge Green, near Horsham, took along a teddy bear mascot called Felicity, one of the 1,000 she has amassed during the past 15 years.

However, it failed to bring her luck, although it did give her the idea of involving Anne in a charity auction.

Jo, 53, described her television experience as the most humiliating of her life.

She said: "It was disappointing to get so far yet come away with nothing because I so much wanted to help the charities I had nominated.

"But having failed to win the prize money, I rather wish I had been the first to be voted off, because it really was the most humiliating and intimidating ordeal.

"I had expected to be the butt of some fairly acerbic quips about being a teddy bear collector but not to come under such personal attack.

"You think you will be able to cope with it but you are put off your stride to such an extent you just flounder. I had gone along prepared with all kinds of funny remarks that I thought I'd be able to bring in but didn't manage to use one of them.

"You know you are making an absolute fool of yourself but you can't do anything about it."

The formidable presenter lived up to her reputation when she dressed Annie the Dominatrix Bear, a classic Steiff teddy with her trademark wire glasses and PVC dress.

It is one of 11 bears accessorised by celebrities to be auctioned off in aid of CHASE, a children's hospice service in Guildford, Surrey.

Jo added: "Anne was kind enough to name and even dress a bear for our charity auction. If Annie the bear raises an impressive sum for CHASE, I will consider my ordeal all worthwhile.

"She called it Annie, which is what the production team call her."

Other celebrities to have designed bears include Amanda Holden and hubby Les Dennis, TV vet Steve Leonard, Sir Steven Redgrave and Henry Cooper.

The teddy's owners will be announced at the Teddy Bear Times gala dinner in Brighton on Saturday. To bid for a teddy, call 01403 711511.
