I was very interested to read that Sheila Daly puts down her deliverance from hydrophobia to the power of prayer offered on her behalf by her friends at Eastbourne Elim Church (The Argus, November 26).

The author of Psalm 34 in the Bible wrote: "I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears." The efficacy of prayer for the sick is still experienced today, especially when friends and loved ones join in praying for the sick person.

I have seen remarkable miracles take place when groups of Christians in different churches have joined and focused their prayers on behalf of individual sufferers.

The greatest thing churches can do in addition to worshipping God and preaching the Gospel is to offer prayer for the sick and needy in their communities. This does not preclude the work of doctors and nurses but recognises all true healing comes from God.
