Worthing boss Barry Lloyd reckons he could have made another inspired continental signing after seeing his side go five League games unbeaten.
Rebels ground out a 3-1 home win over Chertsey in Ryman Division One South last night, helped by an early goal from impressive French striker Florian Mateos.
The 19-year-old language student put Rebels 2-0 up after ten minutes with his sixth goal in seven outings. Mark Knee had already opened the scoring and Ben Carrington hit the third in a rain-swept second half.
Lloyd, who worked the European market to great effect when he was manager of Albion, said: "It has been nice to see him develop. He has got a great touch, he turns people and his goal was not an easy chance.
"Mark Knee hit an absolute screamer into the box and he made it with ease.
"We did not knock the ball about too well because of the conditions.
"We were hoping for a better performance but we ground the result out and the goals came, maybe too early.
"It was a borderline decision to even play the game but we got through it and got the points."
Mateos, who comes from Besancon but lives in Goring, said: "I love English football because it is so quick. It's a lot different in France but I prefer this sort of game."
