A waterfront site which has stood derelict for more than 30 years could be brought to life with a £25 million project.

New homes, riverside walk and leisure facilities are all included in the final plans for Ropetackle in Shoreham.

The plans, which have been submitted to Adur District Council by the South-East of England Development Agency (SEEDA) and Berkeley Homes, have been revised following consultation with local people.

Changes include a reduction in the number of residential properties to improve parking, an increase in floor space for the restaurant/cafe/bar to allow more people to use it and the provision of a children's play facility.

The plans are now on display at the civic centre in Shoreham.

Phil Dibsdale, SEEDA's senior regeneration manager, said: "We have got to this point thanks to the effective collaboration of the partners involved, including the local community and council.

"Once built, the scheme will contribute significantly to the economic and social wellbeing of Shoreham and benefit the local community."

Steve Westaway, Berkeley Homes special projects manager, said: "It will tidy up a site that has been derelict for a long time. We hope it will give Shoreham a lift in general. It will look lovely.

"We look forward to starting work on site early in the new year once we have secured detailed planning approval."

The district council has said a final decision will be made about the plans in the new year.

A planning spokesman said: "We invite members of the public to come and look at the display and let us have their views."
