Police are studying CCTV footage of two railway station brawls after Brighton and Hove Albion's 5-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Disturbances at Thornton Heath and East Croydon stations were reported to police, who made ten arrests.

One 45-year-old Sussex Police officer has been unable to return to work since Saturday after breaking bones in his hand as trouble flared.

While he was arresting a fan at 2.30pm outside Selhurst station, he was kicked by another fan.

Inspector David Williams, based at South Norwood police station in Croydon, said: "We had a lot of police resources to deal with the minority of people who were not perhaps real football supporters and wanted to cause trouble.

"Police will be viewing footage of the disturbances and would hope to bring charges."

An Albion fan was arrested at Clapham Junction for possession of drugs and was cautioned.

Three people arrested for public order offences will appear before Croydon magistrates on Friday, as will a man accused of damaging a police vehicle.

A man arrested for being drunk while trying to enter the stadium will appear before Croydon magistrates on November 8.

Two Palace fans arrested to prevent a breach of the peace were released without charge.

Another two people who ran on to the pitch have been bailed to report to police at a later date.
