A Sussex artist is the bookies' favourite to win the Turner Prize.

Keith Tyson, who lives in Brighton, is one of four nominees for the notorious prize whose works are on show at Tate Britain.

His images of writing on the wall and computerised sculptures nestle alongside a detailed account of a pornographic film on an obscenity-filled billboard in the London gallery.

Tyson, 33, who completed a BA in alternative practice at the University of Brighton in 1993, is inspired by science.

One of his exhibits, named after Rodin's famous sculpture The Thinker, is an octagonal monolithic block with computer machinery inside.

William Hill made him the 11-8 favourite to win yesterday.

The work of another artist on show is expected to provoke controversy. Fiona Banner's Arsewoman In Wonderland gives the creator's graphic description of an adult film, appropriately written in shocking pink letters.

The other artists are Liam Gillick with his multi-hued clear ceiling and Catherine Yass with two films shot in mid-air.

The winner of the £20,000 prize will be announced on December 8.
