It is totally out of the question the firefighters should hold the country to ransom with their threat to public safety.
They should remember it is a job they have chosen to do. They have not been forced or conscripted.
Many of us would love to secure a position with a salary of £21,000. Some professional people cannot find jobs with that pay.
Asking for a 40 per cent increase may as well be a request to double their incomes. Perhaps they should live within their means and not beyond them.
With regard to the Army producing the outdated Green Goddesses again, what are they doing with them anyway? They should have been scrapped years ago.
The firefighters should get a kick up the backside. Let them strike but give the Army the use of the fire stations and equipment.
They don't belong to the firefighters and they have no right to prevent their use for the purpose they were designed and placed there for.
