Multi-million pound plans to solve traffic problems on the A27 have been criticised by councillors for their lack of detail.
Worthing Borough Council's ruling Cabinet asked for more information on how the Government intends to tackle congestion on the route.
The South Coast Corridor Multi-Modal Study, published by Government consultants Halcrow in August, set out proposals for £1 billion road improvements to be completed in the South-East by 2030.
Halcrow suggested £275 million should be spent on bypassing part of the A27 by building tunnels.
But little information has been released on where any tunnels would be dug.
At a Cabinet meeting last night, executive councillor for leisure Maurice Tucker said: "They have allocated us £275 million.
"Here we have a costing and no plans. This is starting to look really foolish. There is no route for the bypass and no direction."
The Cabinet agreed to ask the South-East England Regional Assembly for more information.
