Acclaimed cellist Julian Lloyd Webber will give a masterclass in front of more than 130 young musicians.
Youngsters from across East Sussex will watch Mr Lloyd Webber test two young musicians from the South Downs Youth Orchestra.
Dominic Wells and Lee Reynolds will work on a sonata by Brahms and the Elgar Cello Concerto at the Cavendish School in Eldon Road, Eastbourne.
The event, on November 9, has been organised by East Sussex County Council's music service and is being feted as a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the cellists.
Deputy director Adrian Davies said: "Our young people are being given the opportunity not only to hear a great star and world-class cellist play but also see his master-class."
Organisers have arranged for many young cellists and their parents to attend a concert by Mr Lloyd-Webber at the Congress Theatre, Eastbourne, later that day.
