Channel Tunnel train operator Eurostar said its recovery was on track despite a slide in passenger numbers as business and international travellers stayed away.
Eurostar said 1.89 million people used the high-speed rail link in July, August and September, a 3.3 per cent decline on the same period a year ago. In the year to date, passenger volumes have fallen six per cent.
Eurostar blamed the drop on the depressed business travel market and fewer international passengers.
But the group remained upbeat about its performance and said there had been steady recovery.
