Nick Flint scored an incredible ten goals as Horsham YMCA trounced Littlehampton 22-1 to set a County League record last night.

The goals flew in from all angles as a young Littlehampton side were totally overrun by their division one masters.

YM boss John Suter was reluctant to talk about proceedings after the game but said: "It was an incredulous scoreline.

"It is a very difficult day for Littlehampton. They were very young and very inexperienced and to our credit we kept at it and played well throughout the game.

"We scored some very good goals and the goals came at regular intervals."

YM were 9-0 ahead at half time and, amazingly, had netted eight times before winning their first corner.

Tony Elliott, who recently took over as Littlehampton manager, said: "We had six players 18 and under.

"It is the state of the club. I could hold my hands up and say, 'Blame me, I picked the side' but if players at the club don't want to play I can't do anything about it.

"At the end of the game I went into the dressing room and said to them, 'Heads up boys, there has been a worse result than this'."

The goals came from Flint (ten), Matt Duffield (four), Gil Taylor (four), Mick Hennessy, Damian Francis, Phil Fitzgerald and Rob Farmer. Graham Cross replied.

Meanwhile, Simon Stevens and Paul Richardson netted as second placed Southwick lost 2-0 at Hailsham.
