Crawley Down Football Club hopes to improve facilities for its fans after it was awarded a grant of almost £44,000.

The club's cash windfall comes from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, part of the Football Foundation.

It will pay for new floodlights, a new PA system and improved spectator standing facilities at the Haven Sports Ground.

The improvements will make the club eligible for promotion and to take part in the FA Vase and FA Cup tournaments.

Lord Pendry, chairman of the improvement fund, said: "On behalf of the fund I am delighted to be able to award this grant to Crawley Down FC."

More than £37 million has already been invested by the fund since its launch in July 2000, funding lower-league ground improvements throughout the professional and amateur game.
