Travellers who set up camp in Brighton were given their marching orders today.
But the travellers immediately hit back by launching a legal challenge.
Brighton and Hove City Council has applied for a court order to clear the site at Bexhill Road, near the old Sunblest factory in Woodingdean, and police served an immediate eviction notice on them.
But this morning, the group began legal moves to challenge the eviction.
A spokeswoman for the council said: "We don't yet know on what grounds they are making the challenge.
"However, in the meantime, in co-operation with the police, we are hoping to obtain a different, blanket order which provides the power to clear the whole site rather than moving on individual caravans. We are hoping that will be enforced some time next week."
