So now we know. Lord Bassam's full page on "My city of the future" (The Argus, September 17) contains not one word about a new home for
the Albion or an ice stadium to rival Guildford's or even Gillingham's (yes, them again).
In fact, it has nothing about sport at all other than passing references to the King Alfred site and Black Rock. Lord Bassam's vision for the future is obviously geared up to a brave new world of new media, drug dependency and uncollected rubbish.
Those not fit enough to cycle or wait in the queue for non-existent buses are not going to be catered for. Neither are those seeking an outlet in playing or watching top-class sport.
As an ex-Brightonian living in "boring" Eastbourne, the signals coming from my former home are increasingly negative.
If you want to know how to run a major event attracting more than 200,000 people each day - and over four days rather than just one - send the Big Beach Boutique organisers to see next year's Airbourne on Eastbourne seafront.
No broken glass and transport chaos, just a hugely enjoyable and well-run family event.
And by the way, Eastbourne even has a football team going for promotion
up the league ladder - with enough land to build a proper stadium - and a marina that isn't a collection of tin sheds on concrete.
Get your act together, Brighton. I still love you but I can't bear to see you in decline.
