Plans for a £1 million transformation of a West Sussex beach were unveiled today.

Kingston beach at Shoreham harbour could have a new watersports building, boat launching facility, improved access and landscaping if residents and watersports enthusiast approve in the first of a series of consultations.

On Monday the public will be able to discuss the plans and see an artist's vision of the proposed facelift at the Shoreham Sea Scouts HQ on Kingston Beach between 4pm and 8pm.

Staff from Adur Council, SEEDA and planning consultants Rummey Design Associates will be on hand to discuss the proposals, not yet lodged yet as a formal planning application.

The plan, part of the Shoreham Maritime Strategy, involves knocking down the present watersports building and creating another to cater for the needs of canoeists, wind-surfers and rowers.

Access to the entrance of the car parking area will be made easier and there will be some landscaping.

Residents groups and watersports enthusiasts have been working on the plans with Adur District Council and SEEDA since October 2001.

If feedback is positive, the proposals will go through the planning application process.

The design will be displayed at the Adur Civic Centre from September 24 to October 4.
