Sussex's seamers blew away Warwickshire's top order as the county took control on the second day of the Championship match at Hove.

There were two wickets each for Robin Martin-Jenkins and Paul Hutchison as Warwickshire, chasing the victory which would secure runners-up spot, lost five wickets in 17 overs as they slumped to 61-5 replying to Sussex's first innings 352.

Martin-Jenkins made the breakthrough in the fifth over of the day when Mark Wagh lost his off bail as he shouldered arms to a ball which must have seamed back.

The all-rounder enjoyed his second success in the 17th over, courtesy of a reflex catch by Carl Hopkinson at short leg who clutched the ball in his midriff as Warwickshire captain Michael Powell pushed firmly with the full face of the bat.

Acting captain Richard Montgomerie made a double bowling change in the 20th over, bringing on Hutchison and then Billy Taylor and it paid immediate dividends.

Ian Bell edged a Taylor outswinger to second slip where Tony Cottey took an excellent low catch before Hutchison claimed his first Championship wickets since April in successive overs.

Late inswing accounted for Dominic Ostler who was well caught by Hopkinson at mid on and then Dougie Brown, who had been struck on the arm by a ball from Taylor which reared up off a length in the previous over, was late onto an attempted pull and Tim Ambrose ran around from behind the stumps to take a comfortable catch.

Taylor conceded three boundaries in his next over as Tony Frost, who held the innings together with an unbeaten half-century, and Mo Sheikh launched a counter-attack, but the follow-on target of 203 was still looking a distant target for Warwickshire on a pitch which was offering plenty of help to the bowlers.
