Round one of the Sussex Cyclo-Cross League, which was due to take place in the grounds of the Dorothy Stringer School on Sunday, has been cancelled.

Sussex League champion Jonathan Sharpe said: "This is very bad news for the riders. It is the second year running that the school has cancelled an event there due to course problems.

"I would have thought there was room to devise a new course. I am planning to ride some National Trophy races and this was to have been part of my build-up."

No problems are anticipated with the three remaining Sussex League events. They are at Deers Leap Park near East Grinstead on October 6. Lancing Manor on November 24 and Moulsecoomb Wild Park on December 22. Sussex riders can also compete in the 15 London League races.

Mike Coyle and Tristan Court will renew their rivalry on Sunday in the Sussex and Surrey VTTA 25-mile time trial. The start from Maresfield is at 7.30am.
